Mission Statement To educate and inform our members, our public servants and the general public, and to work for legislative and legal remedies to protect and strengthen the rights of everyone who lives in manufactured housing on leased land in Delaware.
DMHOA had its beginnings as a county association 26 years ago, and has experienced tremendous growth in the last few years. This growth came about because of the greater awareness of manufactured home owners of issues and problems related to manufactured homes on leased land. In 2003, DMHOA was the moving force behind a complete revision of state law that gave home owners the first real protection for their investment (home) in the history of Delaware.
What do we do for our members? · Represent their issues by attending hearings and meetings, with state, national and local levels of government. · Requested and helped establish the Relocation Trust Fund, the Advisory Council with ADR mediation, and the House of Representatives Committee on Manufactured Housing. · Propose and develop legislation to remove inequities affecting manufactured homes on leased land and have secured the legal expertise of the National Consumer Law Center; we provide lobbyists to advocate for legislation on behalf of homeowners. · We are recognized on state and national levels, organized a national convention in Wilmington, and have had a national president. · Work with state and local governments and departments that enforce laws and regulations dealing with our communities, as well as other like-minded organizations to preserve affordable housing. · Provide training and ROC (Resident Owned Communities) support so that homeowners will be prepared to purchase their communities and become cooperatives. · Produced a video depicting what is happening to homeowners living in leased land communities and distributed to officials and legislators throughout the state. · Sponsor monthly meetings with guest speakers, keep membership informed via regular emails, a newsletter, a website and various pamphlets and publications. · Participate in meetings with individual communities to address specific problems that they are experiencing, and educate and advise homeowners of their rights under Delaware’s Chapter 70. This is just a brief overview of what DMHOA is doing on behalf of manufactured homeowners living in leased land communities. |
